about this project:
2024 dragon age world state survey
WHAT'S THE POINT OF THIS WHEN DRAGON AGE KEEP EXISTS? / HASN'T THIS BEEN DONE BEFORE? / HOW DID YOU PUT THIS SURVEY TOGETHER?
To my understanding, personal world state data stored on Dragon Age Keep is not publicly available, so fan efforts are currently the only way to get a read on things like this. While type of thing has been done before, this project's results should be interesting to compare against others' efforts in the past, as it holds some differences from previous surveys:
Most other surveys have asked generally about world states and/or what people select most often. This survey asks people to identify the one primary world state that they personally consider to be their own "canon" and answer questions about it.
Most questions about canon choices and companions include an open-ended “Other” option. This allows visibility for folks whose personal primary world states differ from what’s possible in the game and gives a bit more insight into what percentage of the community head-canons alternative narratives.
The end of the survey includes a general list of questions about things that haven’t been asked before (from what I can find), including initial reactions to / plans for Veilguard, general engagement with the Dragon Age franchise and its fandom community, and a more current and comprehensive set of demographic questions.
Questions in sections 1-3 are primarily pulled from Dragon Age Keep, while the demographic questions in section 6 are adapted from public resources (e.g., U.S. Census questionnaire, Pew Research Center, etc.). As mentioned in the community preview doc, I do want to note my biases of being U.S.-based and not having been involved in the fandom for as long, so there may be some things that may not be entirely accurate to those taking the survey. Please reach out to me if you have any corrections or major concerns in this regard!I also took inspiration from / referenced the following:
WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHARE IN THE SURVEY? / HOW WILL MY DATA BE USED?
This survey will NOT ask for any personal identifying information (e.g., your name, address, phone number, social security number). You will be required to confirm that you are 18 years of age or older. There is a section at the end for demographic questions, such as your gender and race/ethnicity, but answering them is completely optional. The survey will require you to include your username (twitter, reddit, tumblr, etc. - whatever works for you) or some other moniker when you submit the form. This is only to ensure that if you want to request to delete your submission, I can identify which set of responses is yours and delete it. If you'd like to do this, DM me at @WorldStateKeep on Twitter.Your individual responses (e.g., “User @Dreadwolf chose not to punch Solas”) will not be shared. Instead, your responses will only be shared with the public when aggregated together with all other survey data (e.g., “50% of respondents chose to punch Solas”).AI will not be used whatsoever for this project.
WHAT'S THE TIMING FOR THIS PROJECT? / HOW WILL WE SEE THE RESULTS?
An initial preview of the survey was released on September 10th to gather community feedback on the questionnaire, and went live on September 16th. The survey will remain open for as long as the Google Form has space to accept responses, but since there are questions specifically about Veilguard reactions before the game's release, this specific survey will be closed on October 30th. I'm planning to publish a copy of the survey without pre-Veilguard release questions sometime after October 31st and keep that version open indefinitely.Initial results will be shared the week of October 28th, before the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This will be in the form of visual infographics (in a similar style to Larian Studios sharing anniversary posts with Baldur's Gate III stats). Survey results will be posted everywhere that the survey was shared, including Twitter, Bluesky, and Reddit.
